Dataforensics’ PLog Enterprise is used in the development of a Publicly Searchable Geotechnical Database in a joint project between the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Kentucky Geological Survey

Norcross, Georgia, July 28 2009 – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and the Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS) utilized PLog Enterprise in a joint project between the two agencies. PLog Enterprise was selected as a primary software element in the creation of their searchable, web-based, geotechnical database.

PLog Enterprise is a data management system with GIS capabilities, built for the geotechnical industry, and enables users to archive individual gINT projects in to a single, queriable, database. gINT was developed by gINT Software and is a data management system for the geotechnical and geoenvironmental industries. PLog Enterprise utilizes a GIS map interface so clients can view and select data, a query tool to enable data mining and a report generator so users can generate any report they have in gINT.

KGS and KYTC created interactive web pages that allow site visitors to query data that was archived using PLog Enterprise. Site visitors can also download publications from the query results. The interactive search page uses KYTC’s PLog Enterprise Database as its foundation. The user may view geotechnical data returned from the on-line query in various outputs including project reports in PDF format, a geology overview report, or see the boreholes on a map. Reports for individual borehole logs and single borehole stratigraphy summaries are additional viewing options available.

“A data dissemination system using the web is a highly efficient system to distribute data to interested parties including engineering firms, state employees and members of the general public. Such access makes viewing geotechnical information near proposed projects for comparison purposes more effective,” stated KYTC Director for the Division of Materials Bill Broyles. “PLog Enterprise enabled us take our individual gINT projects and easily archive the data in a single geotechnical database based on our gINT project format, which is the format all contractors must submit their geotechnical data to KYTC.”

Scott Deaton, Dataforensics’ president, stated, “It is very exciting to be an integral part of bringing this powerful and useful technology on-line. This dynamic web-based geotechnical database system is wholly functional and in use. Anyone with internet access can use this today. PLog Enterprise has been used to archive KYTC’s geotechnical gINT Projects from 2007 forward into a single, searchable geotechnical database.”

TESTIMONIALS

"I have gotten addicted to that PLog. One of my favorite things about PLog is that you don’t have papers that are blowing in the wind or getting wet from rain and snow."
